WOW, One thing I remember about my mother-in-law, is that there was always Popcorn Balls for everyone to eat, and she always made them by hand for birthdays and for Christmas– this is going back 25 years ago.

Her children, all 7 of them, remember certain things about the making of these popcorn balls; such as buttering their hands when it was time to make them…that Mom made them red and green for Christmas…that all her grandkids would spend a lot of time eating them, because they were so sticky to eat, that the house was quiet until they were done…and that Mom and her sisters simply loved eating them..

I’m sure my mother-in-law (if she was alive) would want to make her classic popcorn balls this new way; with sugar, butter, corn syrup, marshmallow crème, butter, vanilla and candy-coated chocolate pieces (check out the video from Better Homes and Gardens here). I’m sure it would be a pleasant change. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with changing things up every once in a while, especially when the end result is something like THAT!

Here’s what you need:

2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup light-color corn syrup
1 teaspoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla
candies (optional)
