Strawberry shortcake is one of those desserts that is light and refreshing and one of everyone’s favorite dishes.  Whenever I’ve seen it made it’s always wonderful, but it’s always served the same way. This recipe changes that, however, and creates a strawberry shortcake the likes of which you have NEVER seen before!

This recipe is one that I found recently that takes a delightful dessert, but makes it different and special. You ever wonder what it would be like to have a strawberry shortcake SANDWICH? I’m willing to bet the answer is no, but that’s about to change! This is a recipe for grilled strawberry shortcake with lemon cream.  The shortcake itself is one that you buy at the store, which makes this recipe easy. Though, I’m sure if you really wanted to make this dessert your own,I suppose you can make the cake from scratch. Either way is fine! You will need some skewers, heavy cream, lemon, sour cream, strawberries, lemon juice, and some other basic ingredients, but it’s a dessert that you can have made within an hour and every one will love it!

Here’s what you need:

LEMON CREAM:
1/2 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Zest of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup sour cream
SHORTCAKE AND GLAZE:
16 large strawberries, from a 1-pound package, hulled
3/4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 store-bought pound cake, sliced into 1/2-inch slices
Special Equipment: 4 metal skewers
