The weather is finally starting to change a little, becoming a little cooler, so grilling our dinners is soon going to be over for another season.  I always love the opportunity to grill up a new hamburger, so I went searching for a recipe that I never tried and this is what I found.

The recipe is for a whiskey burger, where the patties are actually marinated in a mixture of garlic and whiskey before you put them on the grill.  It really sounded like an interesting idea, so I gave it a try and they turned out amazing.  I’m not sure if I have ever marinated a burger before. I don’t know about you, but I’m used to my flavor coming from the toppings. I was intrigued from the get-go!

You add slices of cheese to melt after they grill and then add bacon and caramelized onions on top, all on one of your favorite hamburger buns and they turn out incredible.  The marinade gives the burgers a flavor that will become a favorite! And since it’s a burger, you can really fix it however you want, to your liking. So, see what you can come up with and tell me all about it!

Here’s what you need:

(4) 6-6½ oz. hamburger patties
¼ c. whiskey
3 garlic cloves, chopped
4 strips of bacon
8 thick-sliced pieces of yellow American cheese
2 large vidalia onions, peeled, cut in half and thinly sliced
2 T. olive oil
2 T. reserved bacon fat
1 t. salt
4 hamburger buns
