I’m really addicted to making and eating homemade bread, that tends to happen when you grow up in and around a family-owned bakery. I’ll try recipes for just about any type.  This recipe is my latest attempt and let me tell you, this looks absolutely delicious!

It’s a recipe for an apple pie bread and it now has a permanent place in my recipe files.  First of all, it is a very easy recipe to follow and creates such a delicious and amazingly smelling bread that you will have a hard time stopping yourself from eating.  You will have to make it ahead of time, because you need to wrap it up after it bakes and refrigerate it overnight before you slice and eat it.  Try it and let me know what you think.  I think it will become a favorite of yours, like it did mine.

Here’s what you need:

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups shredded, peeled apple (about 4 medium)
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup raisins
Streusel-Nut Topping
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
