The kids and I were looking for a great dessert for a family party a while back.  I went searching for a recipe that was easy and chocolatey.  I took one look at these cookie bars and I knew I HAD to make them.  They are so gooey looking I knew they had to be delicious!

This recipe for these oatmeal bars is so tasty I could have eaten it all with a spoon, and the creamy chocolate filling is so good it makes these bars a treat your whole family will love!  We received many, many compliments when we brought these to the party and they went fast. You might want to make a double batch, just to be safe. Give them a try.  Make sure you let them cool completely before you cut them or you will have a mess on your hands.

Here’s what you need:

2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups dark brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/3 cup milk (I used 2%)
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tbsp. ground cinnamon
3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
For the filling:
1 (14 oz) can of sweetened condensed milk (I used Eagle Brand)
1/3 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
