There’s nothing like waking up on a holiday morning with a big fancy breakfast waiting for you. Danish is always a great addition to a morning meal and homemade danish is even better! This recipe is for Overnight Cherry Danish and if you’ve never made your own danish before, it’s a great recipe to start with.

You will have to have the dough in the refrigerator for a night, so plan on that. Working with yeast means you will also have to let the dough rise for about a half hour before you work with it. It takes a lot of work to make homemade anything, but you will be delighted that you made the effort when the aromas of these danish start filling the kitchen.

Here’s what you need:

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) Red Star active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm 2% milk (110° to 115°)
6 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt

6 egg yolks
1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
