I’m in the mood for cupcakes all of a sudden! I spent some time looking for new recipes today and all I could think to myself was “been there, done that. I’m getting bored!” I really wanted something different, something… out there, ya know? Lo and behold,  I came across this article on metro.co.uk by Deni Kirkova titled “17 Weird and Wonderful Cupcake Recipes” and I think I found the mother load! This is exactly what I was looking for! My favorite one is probably the cupcake shaped like a hamburger. It’s so cute! Here’s the recipe for that one straight from the article itself:

Hamburger Cupcakes

Ingredients

Makes 12

Cupcakes

125 g self-raising flour
125 g caster sugar
125 g soft unsalted butter
2 large eggs
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk

Buttercream

1 tub of Cake Angels Vanilla Frosting
½ tub of Cake Angels Chocolate Frosting

Method

Preheat the oven to 200ºC/gas mark 6 and line a muffin tin with 12 cake cases.
Put all the ingredients except for the milk in a food processor and blitz until smooth. Pulse while adding milk down the funnel, to make a soft, dropping consistency.
Spoon into the cases equally.
Put in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes until the cup cakes are cooked and golden on top, check to see if the cupcakes are ready by inserting a cocktail stick into one of the cupcakes. If it comes out dry then the cupcakes are done.
As soon as possible, take the cup cakes in their cases, out of the tin and let cool on a wire rack.
Peel the cupcakes out of their cases and cut the cake in two horizontally.
Using a piping bag with a medium open nozzle, half fill with the chocolate buttercream/frosting, securing the top of the bag with a freezer clip.
Take the bottom half of the cake and pipe round the outer edge of the cup cake. Slowly work your way round in a spiral as you reach the centre of your cupcake. Remember to apply even pressure to your piping bag, this insures an even swirl all the way around.
This is your burger. Add a second layer if you want.
Take the vanilla buttercream/frosting and divide into 3 bowls colouring one red, one yellow and one green.
Put each coloured buttercream/frosting into a zip lock bag and carefully snip a small piece off one of the lower corners.
Take your sponge with the piped chocolate ‘burger’ and slowly drizzle some red ‘ketchup’ icing, then some yellow ‘mustard’ icing and finally some green ‘lettuce’ icing.
Insert some Cake Angels green, red and yellow smarties for extra effect.
Sprinkle some white sugar strands on top and serve immediately.

Sounds AWESOME! I can’t wait to make this one! But there’s MANY MORE where that came from! Check out the rest of the article, along with the other 16 crazy concoctions by clicking here, and see if there’s anything that strikes YOUR fancy. Enjoy!
