I always have a sweet tooth and the idea of making anything with apples usually gets my attention.  This is a recipe for apple strudel that is amazing! This isn’t like any apple strudel you’ve ever had before, trust me!

The ingredients include pineapple and bread crumbs, two things I would never have guessed would go into an apple strudel. The recipe includes nuts too, which I excluded, but if you like nuts, I would keep them in.  It’s not the easiest recipe because it not going to be finished quick, but trust me, it’s well worth the effort.  The fruit mixture takes a little bit of time because you need to cook it down for about a half hour and then you need to cool it overnight.  Working with phyllo dough takes a little getting used to, but when your finished product is done you’ll know it was worth it.  I was proud of myself and the strudel was so good.

Here’s everything you need:

10 to 12 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into thin strips
Juice of 1 lemon
1 large can pineapple, drained and diced
3/4 cup sugar
Pinch salt
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
2 sticks unsalted butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 pound package phyllo dough
Mixture of 1 large freshly ground cinnamon stick, 1/3 cup sugar and 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
