I don’t know what it is about Sloppy Joes, but they make me feel like you have to either be a kid or be eating them with a kid to have them.  Well, I’m going to be making these sandwiches forever, no matter who’s around. That’s because they make ME feel like a kid again, and that’s more than enough reason for  me!

I love them and I think they are one of those simple meals that with a little side, like coleslaw, can make your summer afternoon or night.  They’re fun to eat and this recipe I found makes a great meal that your kids will ask for again and again and you may even find yourself eating the leftovers out of the fridge with a fork.  Included with the sloppy joes, this recipe includes a homemade coleslaw that is incredibly easy to make and if you have kids or not, you’ve got to try this, you’re going to love every bite!

Here’s what you need:

1 tablespoon canola oil
1 pound ground turkey
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
kosher salt and black pepper
1/3 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1/4 small head green cabbage, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
1/4 small head red cabbage, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
2 carrots, grated
4 hamburger buns

Truth be told, I’m not a fan of coleslaw, so I leave it out, but if it’s your thing, then have at it! It’s a fantastic recipe and an awesomely satisfying meal either way! This recipe comes courtesy of Real Simple. Be sure to head over to Real Simple now for the full instructions. Enjoy!
